The 2023 Future Mentors Scholarship Winner:
Jacob Wentzell
This year, we had over 3,600 applications for the 4th Annual Future Mentors Scholarship, and as with every year, there were so many standouts that it was a very difficult decision for our scholarship committee. We read many great stories of students who had been mentors themselves for many years, through all levels of education, civic engagement, and volunteerism. Like many, Jacob was affected by the 2021 COVID pandemic, and had to drop out of school.
So, for Jacob, mentorship came through unexpected hardship of piecing together jobs to make ends meet, and finding new mentors and appreciation for mentorship along the way. By being able to see the silver lining in what was a hard time for so many gave us a lot to appreciate in his essay.
That's why we're honored to present Jacob with this year's $2,500 Future Mentors Scholarship, and we wish him the best as he returns to the University of Arizona to finish his studies, with a new outlook, a new appreciation for mentorship, and gratitude for his future opportunity to serve others.
